[MAIN WINDOW]

{Choose a custom level}

In this frame there are controls to search levels in current archive, and infos about current level.

In first row you could see current level.
When at right of level name there are symbols "(*)" this means that current level is actually installed in Tomb Raider Level Editor, ready to play.

{Find}

Find button, and {<} {>} button, allow to search for text in archived level names.
You type a string in text box and then click on {Find} button.
Level Manager will show you first found level containing that search string.
Clicking on {>} you find next level, and clicking on {<} you find previous level with that search string.
If text box is empty, clicking on {<} or {>} buttons, you could move you in whole archive, step to step.

Of course, for quick search, you could also click on down arrow, at right of current level name, and scroll level list.
Level are sorted in alphabetic ascending order in level list.

{Author}

This button show info about level's author: his name, email and web sites

{More info}

This button will view a documentation file for current level (if there is any)
If in level files there was not a doc file, you can add it to level files with menu command: {Level->Properties of current level}

{Savegames}

This button will start program TR SaveGame manager.
SaveGame manager allows to handle savegames for current level.
You can archive current savegames, add notes and/or screenshots to them.
If when you press this button current level is not set in Tomb Raider Level Editor (i.e. if at right of its name is missing "(*)") you cann't examine archived savegames, with {Play savegame} button, because in TRLE there is NOT level for those savegames.
However if you wish only read archive without play savegame you can do it.
For more information about TR SaveGame manager see also topic: TR_SAVEGAME_MANAGER

{Play}

Click on play button you say to level manager to set current level in Tomb Raider Level Editor, and starts tomb4.exe program to play it.
Old files (like savegames) of previous level, will be saved (backup) and replace by files for new current level.

#8#  [IMPORT SCREENSHOTS]

When you using TR SaveGame manager to capture a screenshot and to link it with a savegame, this screen-shot will be saved in subfolder of savegame archive and it will be not available for LevelManager.
If you wish see these screen-shots also from Tr Level Manager in main window, you must import them.

#10# [Find Tomb Raider Level Editor]

Level Manager needs to know folder of Tomb Raider Level Editor.
Tip: if you are a level designer and you have need to change frequently files (like .was or .tom files) in trle folder, to avoid conflict with backup/restore function of Level Manager you shoul install two different Level Editor program.
One you'll use with Level manager, and you must don't change manually its files.
Other you could use to work with your level.

#11#  [COMPRESS TRLE SETUP]

Compress trle setup allows to have a full Tomb Raider Level Editor installation but many files will be created (like .tr4) or converted (like .wav) during setup process.
Main advantage of compress trle setup is its reduct size.
This file setup is about 52 MB (without manuals) while other file setup could be 170 or 250 Mb.
You can find where download compress trle answering YES when TR Level Manager ask you if you wish see where download Tomb Raider Level Editor.
This request happens when TR Level Manager doesn't find Tomb Raider Level Editor and you press {I've not it} button.
Compress trle setup is divided in 6 zip files.
To install it you have download all files and select them in list box [Install compress trle setup]
Remark: new compress trle is based on five zip files but only first four zip file are really necessary.
Fivest zip file contains only PDF manual in language different than english.
These manuals are useful only to create new levels (technical information about how create levels) but not useful to play levels.

#9#  [Create Level Manager CD]

You could have 3 reasons to create a Level Manager CD:

1) To free space on your hard disk.
Moving archive on cd allows to free about 95 % of full archive size.

2) To give your archive to a friends on yours, or to transfer archive and programs in other pc.

3) To backup archive to avoid in future to lose your archive on hd.

Remarks:
A) You also after moved archive on cd you'll can add newlevels.
These new leves will be saved on hd and so your archive will be on Cd and also on HD.
When, in this evenience, you move archive on cd, too, level manager will prepare archive only for those levels are actually on hd.
I.e., if your archive is based on 3 CDs, level manager will prepare to move on cd only last levels to burn in cd #4 and following.

B) What happens when you load archive.trl from CD?
Level manager will ignore archive folder on your HD and will install archive from CD prompt you for target folder where save archive folder.
For this reason you should load archive.trl from cd ONLY to intall newly this archive on other computer, or to reinstall archive after you've lost all your old level archive.

Command {Tools->Create Level Manager CD}, allows you to burn directly on cd.

Controls of {Create Level Manager CD} window:

{CD Writer is unit =}

To set unit letter of your CD writer

{Burn CD at speed =}

To set burn speed.
Remember to check speed of CD support used.
I.e. if your CD writer burns to 32X but you use a support CD to max 16X you should set 16X speed to burn CD.

{Use CDs with capacity =}

To set size of CD support used.
If you have different CDs, you must specify the lowest size.
For example: you have 1 CD to 650MB and 2 CDs to 700MB, you must set 650 MB like size of supports, otherwise there will be an overflow when Level Manager burns the 650 MB CD.

{Enclose in CD current level archive}

Normally you should always check this option.
When this option is enable, TR Level Manager burns on CD also current level archive. Level files and .trl archive file.

{Enclose in CD TR Level Manager program}

If this option is checked, Tr Level Manager will burn on CD also setup files (you should have in your PC) of TR Level Manager program, and It will prepare an auto-start CD to automatic setup of tr Level manager program before installing level archive or Tomb Raider Level Editor program.
Remember that to handle level archive, or to install Tomb Raider Level Editor program, an user need to have TR Level Manager program.
If in target pc, where CD will be used, there is NOT TR Level Manager, you must insert setup file of Tr Level Manager in CD.

{Enclose in CD Tomb Raider Level Editor program}

If this option is checked, TR Level Manafr will burn on CD also whole TRLE folder you have on your pc.
This means that it's not necessary have original setup files of Level Editor program.

When CD will be used in another PC, auto-run install (TR Level Manager if it's not present and if it is on CD) and Tomb Raider Level Editor program.
It will be created also links in start menu.
Remark: to install Tomb Raider Level Editor from a Level Manager CD, or, on target PC it should be installed program TR Level Manager, or setup files of TR Level Manager should be burned on CD.

{Create intermediate ISO image before burning   (More slow but also more sure)}

It's adivsable create an intermediate ISO image before burning.
However if there is not enough free space on your local disks, Level Manager will ignore this option and it'will burn CD at-fly.

{Start} button

Press this button to start burning of CD.

[CD_INSTALLER]

When you create a Level Manager CD, on CD will be burned also utility CD_INSTALLER.EXE to handle CD auto-run and install optional required programs (TR Level Manager and/or Tomb Raider Level Editor)

In this paragraph you could find some technical informations about cd_installer.exe.
However it's not necessary understand these technical notes, because TR Level manager handles automatically setup of cd_installer utility on Level Manager CD.

CD_INSTALLER allow you to create an auto-start cd to install all necessary programs.
(note: you must write on cd an autorun.inf file containing name of cd_installer.exe as starting program. You can find a valid .inf file in installation folder of Level Manager, named {autorun.inf})

CD_INSTALLER.EXE is programmable writing instructions in text file named {cd_install.cfg}
This file should be in same folder of CD_INSTALLER.EXE.
Usually (advisable) in root directory of CD.

{CD_INSTALL.CFG} could contain followings sections:

#TRLE_SETUP#= Program to install Tomb Raider Level Editor
#LEVEL_MANAGER_SETUP#= Program to install Tr Level Manager
#ARCHIVE_PATH# Path of .trl archive of cd archive.

First two sections are optionals, while third (archive path) must exist.

Example of {CD_INSTALL.CFG}

--------- Start file ---------------------
#TRLE_SETUP# "\setup.exe"
#LEVEL_MANAGER# "\levelmanager\setup.exe"
#ARCHIVE_PATH# "\MyArchive.trl"
----------- End file --------------------

Well, how you can see, all paths sould be relative, i.e. starting with backslash '\' character, without unit letter, because you cann't know what unit letter will be cd unit in computer of the user.

CD_INSTALLER.EXE add to these paths the unit letter of cd reader.

In above example the files of three sections are:

"\setup.exe" is the program to launch setup for Tomb Raider Level Editor. In our example it is in root directory.
Remark: from 1.3 version, Tr Level Manager recognizes also special syntax "trle" for setup trle path.

I.e. if you set following row in cd_install.cfg file:
#TRLE_SETUP# "trle"
TR Level Manager install a full trle folder from cd in root directory (for example "D:\TRLE") to target PC automatically.

"\levelmanager\setup.exe" is the program to launch setup for TR Level Manager (in our example we have copied setup files in subfolder "levelmanager" because setup.exe has same name of Level Editor setup)
"\myarchive.trl" is .trl archive that will be loaded from level manager to install it on hd.

CD_INSTALLER.EXE performs following operations:

1) Check if TR Level Manager is running in that time.
If it is running then cd_installer aborts and ends because if tr level manager is running this means that it has already been installed, and also tomb raider level editor because Tr Level Manager can not run without Tomb Raider Level Editor.

If Tr Level Manager is NOT running cd_installer:

2) Reads cd_install.cfg file

3) Check if exists section #TRLE_SETUP#.
If exists check if Tomb Raider Level Editor has been already installed, otherwise go to step 4
If it has been installed, go to step 4, otherwise launch program specified in #TRLE_SETUP# (file "setup.exe" in our example)

4) Check if exist setion #LEVEL_MANAGER_SETUP#.
If exists check if TR Level Manager has been already installed, otherwise go to step 5
If Tr Level Manager has not been installed, cd_installer.exe launch program specified in section #LEVEL_MANAGER_SETUP#
5) Launch TR Level Manager and pass to it path of level archive (in our example is "MyArchive.trl")
Now TR LevelManager will install the cd archive.
6) CD_INSTALLER.exe ends

#2# [ADD NEW LEVEL] [LEVEL PROPERTIES]

This window is same to add new level or to read properties of archived levels.

{FILES LIST BOX}
In {add new level} phase you should copy in list box all file about this new level.
Remember, you could add also files as whalkthroght or savegme for this level.

You can start or open files in list box simply double-clicking on its name.

{Add from folder}
If you have already unzipped level files in a folder, you can press this button to add all files of folder.
If folder has subfolder you will be prompted wheter insert also files in subfolder or dont.
If in folder there are zip files, these will be automatically unzipped and add.

{Add from file}
You can add a single file.
Usually you'll add the zip file downloaded from internet with all level files.

{Refresh}
This button allows you to refresh list files.
This is useful in this situation:
- You add level files with [Add from file] or [Add from folder] button
- Level Manager detect a setup.exe file and ask you if all files have been added.
- If you answer YES, it will start installation but if you anser NO (because you was not sure) installation will be suspend.
- In this case you can restart scanning of file and auto-start mode, pressing [Refresh] button.

{Remove file}
When you are adding new level, this command remove file only from list box but it doesn't delete it from you hard disk.
Differently, when you are watching [poperties level] if you remove a file this will be removed from level files of current level.

#3# {Compile TOM files and create TR4 files}
This button will be visible only if in list box there are .tom files.
When you press this button Level Manager start conversion process.
If in preference you have checked item {disable auto-compile for tom files}, level manager show a window to explain how handle tom2pc.exe program and then you could start it and execute manually tom conversion.
If in preference you have UNchecked {disable auto-compile for tom files} box, when you press {compile tom ...} button, Level Manager will handle automatically tom file conversion.

When you press this button, you could receive alert as:

----
Warning: missing source file 'angkor.was'
Do you want continue?
----

This means that new level needs of source files missing on your pc.
You can try to convert tom file but probably tom conversion will fail.
In this case you should download from internet missing source files and then import them using menu command: {Tools->Import New/Updated wads}

Note: If new level contains trlmanager.cfg file (configuration file), Level Manager can atuomatically download missing source file and import them.

{Set my language}

This button will be visible only if your Tomb Raider Level Editor is in a language different by english (default language) and if in current it's possible set your language.

IMPORTANT WARNING: it's dangerous to change level language while Tomb Raider program is running.
If current level in Tomb Raider is the same level that you are changing language, there will be a system crash for violation of condivision.

[Level->Set my language in current level]

When you use a foreign version of Level Editor (french, german ect.) you can try to set in current level your language.
In this way you'll have all text in your language when you'll play this level.

In some cases you could have trouble playing a level where you have forced use of your language.
If this happens, you could restore level with menu command: {Level->Restore original language for current level}
Normally when you force your language in a custom level, some text as level name, side's names could change respect to original level thought by author.
It is a choice of yours, to decide if to accept these little changes or not.

IMPORTANT WARNING: it's dangerous to change level language while Tomb Raider program is running.
If current level in Tomb Raider is the same level that you are changing language, there will be a system crash for violation of condivision.

{Level->Restore original language for current level}

You can use this command to restore original language (english pratically) in current level.
This command is enabled only if current level was been converted in your language.

IMPORTANT WARNING: it's dangerous to change level language while Tomb Raider program is running.
If current level in Tomb Raider is the same level that you are changing language, there will be a system crash for violation of condivision.

{File as "More info"}

You can select a file as "more info" file for current level.
This file will be opened when you'll press [More info] button in main window of Level Manager.
Normally you'll select a readme.txt file or (better imho) a walkthrough file for current level.
File "More Info" could be not only text file but also a .doc, .html or .exe file as readme.exe (sometimes you'll find also these kind of file)

{Level Name}

Max length for level name is 256 characters, however only first 50/60 characters will be really visible in main window.

{Single row note}

In this field you can insert a short comment for level.
This comment will be showed immediatly below level name in main window.
Usually, you'll insert in this row, comments like:
"Select 'Seth tomb' to play"
"Don't kill Von Croy in first sequence"

I.e. short comments about how play this level.

Similary at {Level name} this field could use 256 character, however only first 80 / 90 character will be visible.

[Recover archive from HD folder]

If you have lost or damaged archive.trl but You have all its files in main folder you could recover archive but then you'll have insert manually infos about: Level name and {more info} file, using command {Menu->Level->Properties of current level}

#5# [Archive Properties]

This window allow to read and change property of current archive.

{Main (only read) archive folder} and
{Secondary  (writable) archive folder}

Main archive folder is folder where are saved "FILES" subfolders.
Every level has an own folder. Each level folder has following subfolders:

Name      Description
------------------------------------------------------
FILES Contains only read file as : .tr4, .wav, load.bmp, .dat
          These are main files necessary to play a level

SCREENSHOTS
	If you have enabled {screenshot capture}, image files
        will be saved in this folder.
	Screen-shots in this folder will be showed in main
	window when current level is selected.
BACKUP_SAVEGAMES
	This folder is used to save savegame of this level,
	when user start playing a new (different) level.
	Level Manager will copy savegame da Tomb Raider
	Level Editor folder to BACKUP_SAVEGAMES
SAVEGAMES
	This folder is work area for Tr SaveGame manager program.
	If you create a savegame archive for this level, using
	TR SaveGame manager, archive data will be saved in
	this folder.

Distinction between {main folder} and {secondary folder} is meaningful only if current archive is also on CD, otherwise {main folder} e {secondary folder} will be the same.
However for {main dir} we intend folder where there are all "FILES" subfolders.
{Secondary folder} is folder where there are all "SCREENSHOTS", "BACKUP_SAVEGAMES" and "SAVEGAMES" sub-folders.

Difference between main and secondary folder is that files of main folder are only-read and could be saved on CD, while files of secondary folders should remain on HD because they could be changed playing the levels.

Teorically you could change these folders (main and secondary) clicking on {Browse} button.
Really is very seldom that you shall do it.
If in your pc are changed unit letters and now archive folders have different unit letters you can change it to restore correct path.

{Folder Size}

In this field will be showed size used by current archive.
Description of archive size shows distinct size of main and secondary folders and their sum.
Example:
The archive size:
180 MB + 3 MB = 183 MB

means:
Main folder (i.e. files locate in "FILES" subfolders) use 180 MB
Secondary folder (i.e. files locate in other subfolders) use 3 MB.
Total space used by archive is 183 MB.

This format is useful to know how much space wu could free, moving current archive on cd.
When you move archive on CD all {main folder} data will be written on cd and on hd you'll have only {secondary folder}.
In above example, moving archive on cd you free 180 MB by your local (HD) disk.

{ON CD}
This field shows if archive is also on cd.
Note: it's sufficent that exists also a single level on cd to enable "YES" in this field.

{SIZE ON CD} and
{SIZE ON HD}

These field show how much space is used on CD and HD currently.
Remember that an archive could have some levels on cd and other on hd.
Normally you'll move archive on cd (i.e. only last new archived levels) when {size on Hd} will become a very big number.

To know exact amount of new free space that you can get moving current archive on cd, you have perform following operation: {main folder size}  - {Size on CD}
Result will be size you can free moving (now) archive on cd.

{Compression setting}

Level files could be compressed and decompressed to reduct used space.
There are three kind of compression:

1) To compress file in .zl
 This is very fast compression but really it has not too good performance
2) Convert load.bmp in load.jpg
3) Convert wav files in mp3 files.
This compression is very good but it's also very slow.

Really I tip to use wav to mp3 compression only to prepare level files to download/upload.
When you have on your HD level files is better let them uncompressed and free space on hd moving, often, archive on cd to free hd space.

#7# [IMPORT NEW WADS: SET NAME FOR NEW LEVEL]

When you import wads whereby menu command {Import->New/Updated wads} your original trle configuration will change.
Oten, you'll have new levels as, for example "angkor wat" or "guardian of semerkhet".
If you use english trle, old name and new name should be the same, but if you have another language, old name will be in english and you could wish to rename it in your language.
You'll see new level name when, using original trle configuration, you'll select {New game}.
In level list you'll might see new level name.

#4# [SETTINGS]

{TR Level Editor Path}

This field show current Tomb Raider Level Editor folder, used by Level Manager to play and swap levels.
Teorically you could have two or more Level Editor Folder, in this case you should select folder in "standard" folder "c:\program files\Core Design\trle" because when Level Editor will convert .tom in .tr4 files could be troubles if trle folder is different by above standard folder.

{Defaul donwload folder}

You can set in this field your local folder where usually save downloaded level files.
Level manager when you click on {Add file} in {Add new level} window, browses initially this folder.

{Tom2Pc.exe name} and
{tomb.exe name}

Normally you don't must change these values.

{Full backup}

This only read field, remembers you if you've chosen "compact" o "full" backup in installation phase.
Full backup contains all tomb Raider Level Editor files.
Compact backup contains files of: main ("trle") folder, "data" and "graphics/wads" folders.
Compact backup don't recover wav files changed (overwritten) by previous custom levels.

{Screen-shot capture}

You can enable {screen-shot capture} whereby Tr Level Manager.
When screen-shot caputure is enabled, if you, playing, press {Print screen} key, level manager capture screen image.

Remember that also Tr SaveGame Manager has same function, for this reason when you enable screen-shot capture for LevelManager, automatically, it will be disabled for SaveGame manager, to avoid conflicts.

There is an important difference between screen-shot capture of Level Manager and SaveGame manager...

Screen-shots captured with Level Manager will be saved in "SCREENSHOTS" subfolder of current level and will be showed in level manager main window when this level is selected.
Screen-shots captured with SaveGame Manager will be saved in "SAVEGAMES" subfolder of current level and will be showed only using Savegame manager.
These screen-shots will be linked with current savegame and will be showed only when that specific savegame will be selected in SaveGame manager.

There is a menu command to copy "savegame" screen-shots to be seen with LevelManager: {Import ScreenShots archived in SaveGame manager program}
This command will copy all SaveGame manager's screen-shots in "SCREENSHOTS" folder to render available these images also using Level Manager.

{Prompt me or not}

If you enable screen-shot capture for Level Manager, you can choose if Level Manager will prompt you to choose name for new screen-shot or not.
If you check {Don't prompt me} Level Manager will save captured screen-shots in transparent mode, without any game breaks.
In this case Level Manager will assign a progressive name for new screen-shot formatted as {Progressive number} + "Level name"
For example if you are playing level: "The last Crusade", your screen-shots will named as :
"1) The last crusade.jpg", "2) The last crusade.jpg" and so on.
Remember that this function is available only from Level Manager.
In SaveGame manager you'll be always prompted to choose, not screen-shot name, but instead, to choose which savegame to link to current screen-shot.

{Advanced Settings}

{Disable auto-compile for tom files}

Checking this option, Level Manager will not convert tom file automatically but it will start tom2pc.exe program and you'll have add tom files and handle conversion process.
See also: {Compile TOM files and create TR4 files}

{Create log files (for debugging)}

Enabling this otpion, Level Manger will write in its application folder a text file named "LevelLog_NNN.txt"
In this file there is the log of level swapping operations.
Normally this option is not useful for end users.

{Auto save (save archive after every change)}

When this option is enabled, Level Manger will save current archive (.trl file) after every changes.

{Check for equal levels in "add level" phase}

This option enable automatic checking for equal levels when you press {Done} button in {add new level} window.
If you disable this option, you could check equal levels manually, performing menu command: {Tools->Archive maintenance->Check for equal levels in archive}

{Don't decompress to show level properties}

When some levels are compressed (.zl or .mp3) and you select command menu {Levels->Properties of current level}, Level Manager show you data of current level, enclosed its files.
If these files are compressed, level manager will decompress this file before showing to you.
This is slow and not useful, so it's better enable this option.

#6#  [Select setup kind]

When you add to archive a level in exe format, i.e. a level enclosed in a application file, you must tell to Level Manager what's happened in installation process.

You have 2 options:

1) {File has been copied in Tomb Raider Level Editor folder}

When installer program copy files directly in Tomb Raider Level Editor folder, you must select this option.
Remember: when you find a level like this, you must launch installer program only after command [Levels->Add new level]
If you have started setup program externally by TR Level Manager program, you must restore trle folder using command [Tools->Set original configuration in TRLE] and then use command [Levels->Add new level] to add level in exe format to archive.

2) {File has been copied in another folder ...}

If installer program has copied files in a folder different than Tomb Raider Level editor folder, you must click on this button and choose folder where the files have been copied.

[Tools->Archive maintenance->Create all (info tr4 files) to fast equal levels check]

Level Manager save informations about name and size of tr4 files, in info files to handle more quicly check for equal levels in archive.
With this command you can recreate all info tr4 files for whole archive.

[Tools->Archive maintenance->Create\Refresh full backup]

If there is troubles when you play custom levels with Level Editor and you think that there are not correct files in Tomb Raider Level Editor folder you can remove these problems only repeating tomb raider setup.
In this case you should do:

1) Delete old files in Tomb Raider Level Editor folder, to avoid that some files remains after new setup because is a new file. (For example a strings.h file not enclose in original setup)
2) Then you can repeat Level Editor setup
3) Now you must repeat also backup otherwise Level Manager will be not able to restore correctly files if its backup is different by original Level editor.
To repeat backup creation, i.e. copy of all files from Tomb raider level editor to backup folder, you must use command: {Tools->Archive maintenance->Create\Refresh full backup}
This command could be useful also in another evenience.
If you have chosen compact setup and now you wish have a full setup, with this command you could create a full backup.
But remember that files in Level Editor folder should be original files otherwise you'll have many troubles.

#12#  [UPLOAD FILES WIZARD]

Level Manager is able to handle automatically, tom conversion for new levels, however there are particulary case in that it's necessary give infos about level installation.
You can insert these informations creating a configuration file named "trlmanager.cfg" with {Upload files wizard}
This configuration is necessary to handle particular installation procedures.
It's simply useful, instead, to add info as author's and level's infos.

#13#  {Convert .wav in .mp3 files}

You can reduce file level size and download time, converting wav files used by your level in .mp3 files.
Level Manager is able to decode automatically .mp3 files in .wav file when user will add your level in archive.

#14#  {Author's infos}

These fields are optional, however could be useful to insert personally yours data.

#15#  {Use extern wav files from original Tomb Raider CDs}

You have not right to enclose in your level files, wav get by original tomb raider cds different by Tomb Raider Level Editor, because they are copyrighted by Eidos Interactive.
However you could say to users of your level, to copy these wav files from Orginal Tomb Raider CD, to Tomb Raider Level Editor folder.
Sometimes you'll give also information about to rename these files.
Level Manager allows you to insert these informations in configuration file of your level.
Level manager will handle this import wav operation automatically if it finds a trlmanager.cfg file in level files.

To better understanding this wav import, we see a specific (real) example.
In famous level "The last crusade", its author writes in installation text file about the sounds:

--------

To create the perfect atmosphere and to save you a big download some audio files can be copied from the chronicles CD.
It is really up to you if you want to make these changes to enjoy the levels much!!! more. Background audio will be
overwritten.

Backup the files "107.wav" and "110.wav" and delete them from the audio map.
Go to the audio map on the chronicles CD and copy,

xa15_a_rome.wav
xa16_A_Rome_Day.wav

into the audio map. Rename "xa15_a_rome.wav" into "107.wav".
Rename "xa16_A_Rome_Day.wav" into "110.wav"

--------

Well, we can to do perform these operation to Level Manager, inserting in trlmanager.cfg followings records:

First record:

	Original name: xa15_a_rome.wav
	From original CD: Tomb Raider Chronicles
	Rename it as: 107.wav
	If missing use: 107.wav

Second record:
	Original name: xa16_A_Rome_Day.wav
	From original CD: Tomb Raider Chornicles
	Rename it as: 110.wav
	If missing use: 110.wav

When Level Manager will perform trlmanager.cfg file, will execute (about extern wav import):

1) Prompt user to ask if he owns original cd Tomb Raider Chronicle.
If original cd exists, Level Manager will copy file "xa15_a_rome.wav in your level files, renaming it as "107.wav"

2) Se user has not Tomb Raider Choricles, level manager will look for (substitute name), i.e. wav file in field "If missing use".
Level Manager search in level files for "107.wav" (substitute name, remember).
Since it doesn't find it in level files, it will search wav file also in audio folder of Tomb Raider Level Editor and finally in that position, level manager will find it.
Since substitute name is in audio folder, level manager not enclose this wav file in level files, because this wav is an original file of Tomb Raider Level Editor.

Similary, Level Manager will handle import wav for second record "xa16_a_rome_day.wav"

#16#  [IMPORT WADS FILES]

If your level is in source format (i.e. you deliver .tom files and not .tr4 files) you should check if your .tom files, to be converted, need of not-standard wads.
For example if your level needs of angkor.was file and you don't enclose this file in your zip file, then you must inform level manager about this situation.

You must set three values:

1) Sintetic description of not standard wads.
For example "Angkor Wat wads"

2) A single file name to allow at Level Manager to check if these wads files exist in user pc.
For example you could use as check file "angkor.lar"

3) Url address where user could download wads zip file.
For example "http://www.mysite.com/angkor.zip"

When Level Manager will process this data, first it check if in "trle\graphics\wads" folder exits file "angkor.lar" (in our example).
Then, if exits it goes on without problems, if "angkor.lar" doesn't exist, level manager prompt user to inform about this problem, and asks to user if he wish download and import new wads.

Note.
Remember that sintetic description values for all wads file, this means if your level needs of two or more files, you should write a description like: "Revised_wads and new_wads (guardian of semerkhet)" ( for example)

#17# [WAD FILES USED FOR TR4 CONVERSION]

If your .tom files use, to be converted in tr4 format, wad files with name different you should specify which names use for tr4 conversion.

For example if your tom file named "revenge.tom" should be converted using "catacomb.wad/was/..", you must set link:

"revenge" CONVERT USING -> "catacom.*"

With this method is possible also duplicate our source wads.

We could do an example, using, installation note of "The last crusade".

We read:

------------------

INSTALLING "THE LAST CRUSADE"

THE WADS,

The first 2 levels are used with the same wad. You can install it in 2 different ways.

1. (The easy way) Copy the wads into the graphics, wads directory.
   Open TRwest and load the "crusade.was" wadfile. Save it as "crusade2.was".
   You can now convert "crusade.tom" and "crusade2.tom" seperatly.

2. (The hard way and for Mac users) Copy the wads into the graphics, wads directory.
   Copy "crusade2.tom" into the graphics, wads directory.
   Rename it to "crusade.tom". Convert the .tom file.
   Go to the DATA map and rename the made "crusade.tr4" file back
   to "crusade2.tr4". After that install the other "crusade.tom"
   file over the old renamed "crusade.tom" file. Convert...

And finally convert "crusade3.tom"

--------

Well, lucky, using level manager we have also a third way: insert in trlmanager.cfg informations to duplicate automatically required wads.

In step 6 of Upload Wizard window, we'll write:

My Tom file ------>  "crusade2"
Should be converted using wads files -> "crusade.*"

Done. :-)

Note: when some source wads (for example, .cd, .lar or other extension) are already present in your level file, they will be not overwritten.

#1# [Tom -> Tr4 Conversion Assistant]

Usually appear this window when Level Manager detect that one or more files necessary to convert .tom files of new level, are missing.
If current level needs of extern wads file, like "angkor" o "new_wads" Level Manager is able to recognize immediatly this situation.
This means that if you see Tom / Tr4 assistant, the problem is another...
Probably tom file of current level should be convert using wad files with name different than its name.
For example a tom file named "revenge.tom" could be converted using "catacomb.*" wads or other.

You can try to understand which wad to use, reading "install-note" file and then, set in frame {Choose .WAD files to convert each .TOM file}, tom name (in our example "revenge") and then, wad file used to convert it (in our example they will be "catacomb.*")
When you've set all above value, you can click on {Perform now} button, to create a link between tom file and wad files.

If you don't know how do, you can click on {Automatic analyse}.
In this way, Assistant will try to analyse all "readme" files to discover which wad files should be used to convert .tom files.

Really automatic analyse is not perfect system, however 75 % it will be able to discover for you necessary operations to perform and it will execute them for you.
Lucky, trying is not dangerous. :-)

Remark:
It's advisable let checked (enabled) option {Show only essential files} to have more sintetic list of tom files requiring operations.
For example, if in current level there are following .tom files:

home.tom
fight.tom
fight2.tom

And there are following .wad files:

home.wad
fight.wad

The only tom tile missing of wad file is "fight2.tom"
Well, if you enabled option {Show only essential files} in first (top) list box there will be only file "fight2.tom".
Differently, if you disable (unchecked) option {Show only essential files} in firt list box there will be all .tom files and so: home.tom, fight.tom and figth2.tom
This It could be a bit confuse.

#18#  [TR_SAVEGAME_MANAGER]

TR SaveGame manager is an extern program you could launch clicking on {Savegames} button.

Main scope of TR SaveGame manager is to archive savegame, removing them from Tomb Raider Level Editor folder and save them in current savegame archive (*.trs file).
When SaveGame manager removes savegames. it lets last (more recent) savegame in TRLE folder but renames it as "first slot" savegame.
In this way you'll can to backup ALL savegame in progress of your game, and by other hand, to have always free slots in Tomb Raider to save new savegames.

To performs this operation you must use command menu {Savegames->Import savegames from Tomb Raider folder}

You can add to savegame records, screenshots and text note.

{Add a text note}

1) Single click on a savegame name in list box.
2) Click on {Change} button
3) Insert in {Notes} field of new {Savegames properties) window, the text notes

{Add a screenshot with capture}

1) Before starting SaveGame manager, you must choose Level Manager command menu: {Preferences->Level Manager} and uncheck (remove check from) {Enable screenshot capture...} option.
In this way you'll have enabled screenshot capture for SaveGame manager.

2) Select level in level list
3) Click on {Savegames} button
4) If current level is not set in Tomb Raider Level Editor folder (name with missing "(*)") Level Manager prompt you to ask if you wish set in TRLE folder this level. You must answer {YES}

Now, using TR SaveGame manager there are two ways to add screenshots to savegame records.

- Add screenshots while you are playing

You can capture screenshots hitting on {Print Screen} key, while you are playing and Level Manager will capture screenshot and prompt you to ask at which slot you wish link current screenshot.
For this reason you, before hitting {Print screen}, should save current position in a slot, with Tomb Raider {Save} command, and then hit {Print screen} key.

- Add old screenshots from SaveGame manager.

If you have already an image and you wish add it to savegame record, you can select savegame record in list box and then click on {Change} button.
In {Savegame Properties) window, click on {Browse} button in {Screenshot} frame, and select your image to add.

{Remove screenshot from savegame record}

1) To click on record with screenshot to remove
2) To cick on {Change} button
3) To check (sign) {Remove screenshot linked at current savegame} option
4) To click on {ok} button

{start_me.exe utility} {madplay.exe utility}

start_me.exe and madplay.exe utilities allow to decode .mp3 files in .wav files following correct format for tomb raider games.
You can insert in your zip file (of your own level) these two utilities to allow user without Tr Level Manager to decode mp3 files.

Note for Level Designers and Webmasters (level distributors)
------------------------------------------------------------

Decoder Mp3 (placefolder name 'start_me.exe')
---------------------------------------------
Decoder Mp3 decodes mp3 files and convert them in correct wav format to be used with Tomb Raider Level Editor program

Default usage:
--------------
All mp3 files in current folder will be decoded in wav format.
Source mp3 files will be deleted.

Command line options:
---------------------
/? (Show help: like this but enclosed in "start_me.exe")
/N (Not remove source mp3 files after decoding)
/O:OutputFolder (Save Output wav files not in current folder but in {OutputFolder})
/S:SourceFolder (Search for mp3 files not in current folder but in {SourceFolder})

Remarks:
--------
* Use quotes "... " if folder name encloses white spaces

* Decoder Mp3 recognize only mp3 files created using TR Level Manager program (http://www.TrLevelManager.org). You can create them with menu command [Tools->Upload level files Wizard]

* Option letters are NOT case sensitive

Examples:
---------
start_me.exe  /N  /S:"C:\My Music"  /O:D:\WavSounds
start_me.exe  /S:"\my subdir"  /O:\OtherSubDir

[USE TR SaveGame Manager externally from TR Level Manager]

When you use TR SaveGame Manager to handle savegame archive of custom levels saved with TR Level Manager, you don't must change {Prefrences->Archive}, because these preference are the only correct values to handle savegame archive in Level Manager.
However, if you wish use TR SaveGame manager to handle other savegame archive, for example to handle savegame of The Last Revelation, or Chronicles games, you should create new archive with menu command: {File->New}

{Create new savegame archive}

To understand values to set in Preferences new archive window, you have to understand how is organized an savegame archive.

Following is a sample of structure archive folders:

This archive is on "D:" drive, and its main folder is named "MySaveGame"

Main_Folder Sub_Folder  Savegame_Files
--------------------------------------
D:\MySaveGame
		Slot1
				savegame.0
				savegame.1
				savegame.2
		Slot2
				savegame.0
				savegame.1
				savegame.2
				savegame.5
		Slot3
				savegame.3

--------------------------------------

We suppose that this archive is relative to Tomb Raider The Last Revelation.
This tomb raider version allows to handle not more of 15 savegames (slot) at same time.

Now, we set correct preference for above sample archive:

{Main archive folder} = "D:\MySaveGame"
{Tomb Raider folder} = "C:\Program files\Core Design\Tomb Raider The Last Revelation"
{Tomb.exe full path} = "C:\Program files\Core Design\Tomb Raider The Last Revelation\tomb4.exe"
{Progressive sub-folder names} = "Slot"
{Max savegames number} = 15

When you create new archive, really you can handle an old backup of savegames.
I.e. in above example, after we have created this "new" archive, Tr SaveGame manager, shows us 8 savegames archived in it (see above) + eventual savegames in Tomb Raider folder (not yet archived).

If you have many savegame in a single folder but you have not created sub folders like "slot" + progressive number, you can create a new archive, too, but before giving command {File->New} you should change {Preferences->Tr SaveGame Manager} and add check to option: {Search savegames in all subfolders of archive main folder}
In this way, Tr SaveGame manager search any savegame files saved in Main Folder, regardless if it is save in a specific subfolder.

[Tools->Reorder archive]

This tool allow to reorganize current archive in different ways.
You can remove double savegames (equal savegames), re-sort it, and other.
You should set a new (empty) main folder, to host new reorganized archive.

[Tools->Rescan archive and Tr folder]

This command rescan all savegame in main archive folder, and also in Tomb Raider folder.
Normally you should use this command only if you have changed manually files in main folder archive, or you've played Tomb Raider, creating new savegames in its slots.

[Play savegames]

This command allow to watch (examine) current selected savegames.
When you select one (or more) savegames and click on this button, SaveGame manager will perform following operations:

1) Remove savegames from Tomb Raider folder, and save (backup) them in temporary internal folder
2) Copy selected savegames in Tomb Raider folder
3) Start Tomb Raider program
4) When you will close Tr SaveGame manager program, it prompt you to restore old (original) savegames in Tomb Raider folder.
5) If you answer YES, it will restore savegame from temporary folder (see point 1) to Tomb Raider folder

[Start Tomb Raider]

This command start Tomb Raider program, without change savegames in its folder.

#19# Problem installing new levels

If you have troubles to install (add) new levels, in this section there are some tips to solve common problems.
Please, if following tips don't solve your problem send me an email {dolce_paolo@tiscali.it} to describe this trouble.
You should write me name of level and where you download it.
This is important to improve TR Level Manager in next versions, and I'll send you a tip for your problem as soon as.

#20#  Levels in exe format

Saying "exe format" we mean a level that requires, to be installed, to run a "setup.exe" file.
These levels often create troubles in particural way if users don't execute operations in correct order.
When you download a zip file encloses an exe file, or directly an file.exe (autoextractor, usually) you don't must to run this exe while you are OUT of Level manager environment!
If you have put this error, you must restore original configuration of trle folder with command:  {Tools->Set original configuration in TRLE}  and then add file (.zip or .exe) with usually command: {Levels->Add new level}

More information about adding level in exe format in topic: {Select setup kind}

#21# Missing .wad file for .tom file

When you, in adding level phase, receive the mexage: "Missing xxx.wad file for xxx.tom file" this means that Level Manager is not able to locate a wad file to convert from .tom to .tr4 file a level file of current level.
This problem usually happens when level's author has eclosed in zip file tom files with names different than .wad file in graphics/wads folder or in same zip file.

There are different way to solve this problem.
1) Automatically Level Manager try always to locate a configuration file in on-line database for new levels.
If you've not received the mexage "Probably there is a configuration file for current level .... Do you want download it? " you could try to adjourd url list.
Pheraps this level has been added in online database after you installed TR Level Manager, so you should often update online database.

To update your online database you must:

- Execute menu command: Levels->{Show urls where download new levels}
- Click on button named [Update]

If download is completed successfully, you can repeat adding of new level.
If you are lucky, now new level could has been enclosed in on-line database and if it's, Level manager will recognize it and will download configuration file to automatic installation.

2) If new level is not enclosed in on-line database, you can use Tom-Tr4 conversion assistant.
When you receive the warning: "Missing xxx.wad file for xxx.tom file .. ", then Tom-Tr4 assistant will be started.
You can find more informations about tom/tr4 assistant in topic: #1#

#22# This level requires downloading of extern wads files

If in adding level phase you receive the warning: "This level requires downloading of extern wads files" this means current level needs to have source files currently not present in your Tomb Raider Level Editor configuration.
If required wads is "revised_wads" new levels could run also without these wads but there will be some troubles in animations of Lara.
If required wads is not "revised_wads" you must download them to install new level.
If you anser YES to request to download them, TR Level manager will start automatically download and install them.
Note: when you've added new extern wads, all future levels require that wads will be installed without any warnings.
For more information about importing of extern wads see topic: #7#

#23# Levels has succesfully added but it doesn't run

It could happens for following reasons:

- In "new game" page (in Tomb Raider) you choose a level but it's appear like original level of Level Editor instead of custom level you've downloaded.

This happens because level's author has let all old original names for levels but only one of these is his custom level.
To solve this problem just to try loading each level name, until you see a level different than original LE levels.

- Level (really) is ok, but you choose from "New Game" page a level name not really present.
Sometimes, level's creators encloses in zip file a script.dat file with references to many different their levels, also if some of those levels have been not enclose in that zip file.
For example.
You download "Vulkan" level and add in.
No errors, well.
You click on [Play] button and choose [New game] (in tombraider).
You see many level names and choose first of list and Tomb Raider Level Editor aborts immediatly.
It's probably that level really is not present, there is only its name.
In this case you could try to choose another name, and so on, until you find the level name really enabled.
Other solution is to go on site of author and download ALL his levels and enclose those files in old level you download in past.

- Missing or multiple .dat files.
Tip: verify with command {Level->Properties of current level} if and how much, .dat files there are in level files.
If there are two or more .dat files, remove .dat file not necessary (it's useful only one language.dat file)
If .dat file (script.dat or 'language'.dat) is missing, you can verify on web site where you download it, if you've forgotten to download zip file with .dat files.

- Your configuration in Tomb Raider Level Editor folder was corrupt.
Pheraps some source files (in folder "graphics/wads") have been changed.
Tip: Use command {Tools->Set original configuration in TRLE} and choose "Full" option.
Now export current savegames for that level (to avoid to lose them) with command {Savegames->Export savegames from current level} and save them in sure folder (for example "c:\my documents")
Now, remove level with command: {Levels->Delete current level} and then repeat adding phase using original zip file of that level.

General troubles with TR Level Manager
--------------------------------------

#24# How restore corrupted Level Editor configuration

If you have repeated problems with many levels "converted" from .tom to .tr4, it's probably that your configuration file in Level Editor folder was corrupted.

To restore original configuration you must use command {Tools->Set original configuration in TRLE} and choose "Full" option.

#25# Graphical layout of TR Level Manager becomes "ugly"

Unluky this problem has not yet been removed.
However just re-start operative system to restore correct graphical layout.

#26# I lost/damaged .trl archive how can I recover it?

Sure. :-)
You can use command {Tools->Archive Maintenance->Recover archive from HD folder}
You will be prompeted to select folder of archive, i.e. the folder where level have been phisically saved.
If you don't remember where is this folder you could search in your local disk sub-folder named like:

LEVEL_0001
LEVEL_0002

And choose parent folder.
For example if you find in your local disk a following tree folder structure:

d:\LevelFolder\
		LEVEL_0001
		LEVEL_0002
		.....

You should select like "main archive folder" the folder "d:\LevelFolder"

Tr Level Manager will create a new "default" .trl archive using all level files it finds in main folder.
Your levels, savegames and screenshot will be recovered but names of levels will have "default" name like "Level 1" "Level 2"
You will can rename with meaningul name using (for each level) menu command {Levels->Properties of current level}

#27# I'm a level designer, can I change wads files to create my level?

If you change original wads files of "graphics/wads" folder, TR Level Manager could be not able to convert correctly new levels in .tom format.
Hovever there is a simple solution to this problem.
You can create two distinct Level Editor folder, and use the first for your custom level, and second folder for use with TR Level Manager.

Since to use room editor program, Level Editor should be installed in default directory in program files (usually it is "c:\Program Files\Core Design\trle") you should install in default directory your own copy of trle to create your custom levels, and then install another Tomb Raider Level Editor copy to use TR Level manager.

If you use this solution, remember to verify that TR Level Manager was using the right folder.

For example.
If you install two copy of Tomb Raider Level Editor, one in "c:\Program Files\Core Design\trle" (default directory) and another in (for example) "d:\trle" you must verify that TR Level Manager links the "d:\trle" folder.
To verify (and eventually change) path of Tomb Raider Level Editor in TR Level manager program, you cand use command {Preferences->Level Manager} and watch field named "TR Level Editor path"
If you want change this path, just click on button "Browse" at right and choose new folder (in our example it will be "d:\trle")
Remark: if you change path of trle in Level Manager preferences, it's advisable update also trle backup with command {Tools->Archive maintenance->Create/Refresh full backup}

#29# I've installed a new version but program seems old version.

This bug happens (sometimes) using Windows98 SE, if you've NOT uninstalled previous old version.
Normally (under other O.S.) it's not necessary to uninstall old version to update Tr Level Manager with new version, however if you have this bug, you should uninstall old version and then repeat installation of new version.
Tip: copy file with estensions: *.trl and *.prf in other folder before uninstalling, and then to have installed new version, re-copy these files in installation folder.
Verify also to not remove archive folder if it is in installation folder.
Normally when you uninstall a program, the new files (created by program) will be not removed but it's better to be carefully.

#30# Capture screenshot function doesn't run

First of all, remember that correct sequence to get screenshot capture is:

- Start Tr Level Manager program
- Verify with command {Preferences->Level Manager} if option {Enable screenshot capture with Level Manager} is enabled
- Start Level clicking on {Play} button
- While you are in game, press {Print screen} key

Differently, if you are able to capture a screenshot but this image is corrupted (blank) the problem is communication between your graphical card and windows OS.
To solve this trouble you could change some graphical option in {Tomb Raider Setup} (you find this link in Start Menu in Tomb Raider Level Editor folder)
You can try to change from "hardware" to "software" handle of graphical.
First you can try to set texture drawing in software mode.
If this is not sufficient to solve problem, you could set, in side of your graphical card name, the item "Core design MMX Hardware Card Emulation"

#31# Functions of keys F9 / F11 dont run

First of all, remember that correct sequence to have F9/F11 functions is:

- Start Tr Level Manager program
- Start Level clicking on {Play} button
- While you are in game, or in Inventary (but NOT in savegame list mode) press key F9 or F11

If your PC is slow, you shall keep pressed key F9 / F1 for at least a second, instead of press and let immediatly the key.
